1. General Budget Overview

2. Overview of Major Budget Components

 

 

• Tentative Budget

   a. Changes made to the budget since July 7th

·                   Public Works take $250,000 of Discretionary Sales Surtax to Capital Project Fund

·                   Reduce Public Works income by $250,000 – eliminate 2 dump trucks for $272,000 and add 1 pickup

 

·         State Attorney – decrease $2,000

·         Sheriff’s budget same as FY Plus $73,897

·         USDA Roof Repair - $95,000      (staff is hopeful to complete this roof in current budget)

 

·           Increase in Medical Insurance

·         Tourist Development Budget up $37,500 – Holt stated BOCC needs to be better stewards of that money

·         Library – shorten hours of operation by 12 hrs a week – go back to 56 hrs. pre 2006

·         No funding to community organizations

·         EMS rates increased to cover current costs

 

•    Major Revenue Sources

a.             Property Taxes & Millage Rate

• Expenditures

a.                 BOCC Operating Costs -review of departmental budgets

  County Attorney – reduce $15,000

Tourist Development - 

IT – look at decreasing this by $5,000

Direction to the Staff – investigate closing the waste sites.  Outline how you will educate the public.  Come back to the board for approval.  Be careful in the approach we take to sell it to the county.  Note the benefits to the public for subscribing to Waste Pro.

 

  Marlon Hunter, Gadsden County Health Department- requested EMS share in utility bills at the Chattahoochee Health Department.  – Chief Crum confirmed that it is in the budget already.

 

  Chair Taylor wants to beef up the Code Enforcement – want a magistrate to come on board. 

$200,000 per district for discretionary

 

  Commissioner Holt – Friendship Park – it is a mess.  Wants to employ a grant writer.  Looking for a professional grant writer. Contract grant writer that will pay for itself. 

 

Directive  to staff – find $150,ooo - $200,000  to $250,000

 

Look at constitutional and department budgets to get that money.
