AGENDA ITEMS

1.       WELCOME - Brenda A. Holt, Chairperson  

Chair said she would like to come up with working plan to address the health in Gadsden County. In favor of one county person being pen point for the healthcare.

 

Mr. Presnell provided a copy of healthcare rankings.

 

Dr. V clarified that on the rankings in showed Gadsden County in Georgia and need to be corrected.

 

GENERAL BUSINESS

 

2.       Presentation –Big Bend Cares, Inc. -(Rob Renzi, Chief Executive Officer)  

 

Mr. Renzi discussed his program that do HIV testing with healthcare providers 3 fulltime and 1 part-time. They test 60 participants per month. 4000 condoms per month. He gave overview of program. Try to bring services to the people and community.

 

Mrs. Holt asked why they only targeted minorities. He said they are only allowed to count minorities, but the program is open to all.

 

Mrs. Holt asked about the data and said she would like to see it. He said he would provide to Mrs. Jackson.

 

Mrs. Holt asked about all count for all for all races. How do we make numbers go up or down? He said he could provide over all data.

 

Dr. V. asked that they all present and then entertain questions to the organizations.

 

Mr. Presnell inquired about the responses from the request. Try to map all health aspects in the County.

 

Mr. Hinson said that Big Bend Cares is grassroots in Gadsden County. Appreciate the work in the Community. He mentioned prep, a drug that kills the virus.

 

 

3.       Presentation - Bond Community Health Center, Inc. -(Temple O. Robinson, MD, Chief Executive Officer)  

 

Dr. Robinson gave power-point on the Bond Community Health Center. She gave overview of site and services offered.  She said that they served 435 patients in CY 2015 and 1150 patient visits. She said uninsured patient are offered sliding fee discount. Transportation is provided free of charge to those accessing the Ryan White. Will open new primary care site in the spring of 2017.

 

4.       Presentation –Florida Department of Health –Gadsden-(Adrian Cooksey Wilson, Dr.PH, MPH, Administrator)

 

5.       Presentation – Jesse Furlow Medical Center -(Joel Montgomery, Chief Executive Officer, North Florida Medical Centers)  

 

Mr. Montgomery addressed the BOCC. He said they have been in operation for over 30 years.

Lane Lune addressed the BOCC she said the offer the same services that Bond provided. One doctor and 2 nurse practitioners.

George Martinez presented demographics for 2015. Dental Services will soon be provided in October 2016. Back to School Health Fair tomorrow from 1-2pm.

 

6.       Presentation – Neighborhood Medical Center, Inc. -(Jeanne’s S. Freeman, MSP, MSW, Chief Executive Officer, Registered Clinical Social Worker Intern)  

Nellie Graham presented power-point for Neighborhood Medical Center. She said they have 6 locations.

 

Dr. Kanesha Cole finished presentation. She said they offer primary healthcare, dental, mental, specialty and a women’s clinic. She said they have served Gadsden since 2013, 7648 patients. Dental since 2014 -8518. She said they are dedicated to improving and achieving all health care outcomes for all residents of the Big Bend Area.

 

Mrs. Holt asked some questions to categorize them. She asked for a flow chart, so they can have a network.

 

Dr. V. said the Neighborhood Medical was more specific with data. He posed several questions. How accessible is appointments.

 

Mrs. Holt asked about the referral process. Work together. She suggested they all fill out packet survey about services they offer and whom. What are some things to do that can make it better.

 

Mr. Hinson discussed transportation being a major factor. What are some of the benefits of getting dental services, is there any savings. They due offer discounted services.

 

  What do we need to improve?

 

Medical Center – the education piece.

 

  Mr. Renzi goes to events that are already planned. “Go where they already at.” Second Harvest is looking for partners.

 

  Dr. Robinson said you have to get out there. You need clientele to trust them. Look in community and get them to trust you. Get word out with health literacy. What does it look like to be healthy?

 

Mrs. Holt said they have a building coming where the Farmer’s Market to provide the educational facilities.   We need to change whole mindset.

 

 Mr. Hinson addressed the Prep. He said they need to talk about it.

 

Dr. Robinson said there are stigmas. There is an underground world.

 

  Mrs. Holt said people need to know. She said give them feedback, who are some of the other groups. Please fill out surveys if you haven’t.

 

  Graham asked about ½ cent sales tax. She said numbers dropped in 2008.

 

  Holt funding was moved and it had to be removed. The educational piece is what gone.

Mr. Hinson asked could it be on the ballot.

 

Mrs. Holt citizens voted for ½ cent. The Board needs to change.  

 

  Mrs. Graham, Hospital Board, utilize the empty space. The key to this is accessibility. She asked that they look at collectively. This is a money making business. She said they must look at the ½ cent sales tax for indigent care.

 

  Mrs. Holt said it only takes 3 votes to bring ½ cent sales tax to take care of indigent care of the hospital. Everyone needs to work together.
