Welcome

   Jones-Wilson, Vice-Chair, welcomed everyone to the meeting at 5:13 p.m. 

Open Advisory Meeting/ Pledge of Allegiance

Holt motion to approve agenda /Lockwood 3-0

  

Program Discussion and Partnerships

 

Ø  SHIP Rehabilitation Waiting List  

 

Ø  First Time Homebuyer Program

 

Ø  Foreclosure Prevention

 

Ø  USDA Rural Development

 

Ø  CDBG Grant Update

 

 Burns appeared and stated they are working to get waiting list down.

 

  Burns mentioned Ability First

 

  USDA has 600k available, wanting to spend every penny on Gadsden County residents.

 

  if not storm related, residents only qualify for 15k    

 

  Would have to be income qualified, sign contract and lien

 

  Burns explained what a lien is; they receive money in form of grant, not loan

 

 USDA Application has age limit, at least 62 yrs old

 

  10% of 350k has to be used to pay staff

 

  Burns went on to foreclosure prevention  

 

  Burns went on to CBDG Grant update; currently have 7 applications to receive demo replacements.

 

  Waiting on exemption for asbestos

 

  Burns stated will be meeting next month in regards to local housing assistance plan (LHAP)

 

  Plan will go out May 26 

 

Stallworth appeared at 5:29 p.m.

 

  Jones-Wilson asked about Homeowners month; Burns stated that is normally in June, they are open to any ideas.

 

  Holt mentioned tiny houses and stated was interested in that for workforce

 

  Burns stated they must do something for their homeless population

 

  Stallworth stated about 100-150 homeless people in Gadsden County; would love to get an 18-wheeler in

 

  Holt stated they would need help with drug rehab 

 

Public Comments

  Jerilyn Monroe appeared and asked if there was a plan now with homeless population.

 

Jones-Wilson stated had no answer for her right now. Burns stated they are working on the homeless; asked to give them a couple months to finish it.

 

Committee Comments

  Stallworth thanked citizens for attending.

 

  Holt stated comprehensive plan needs to be revised

 

  Burns stated would like to add that to report and recommend it to the board.

 

  Holt stated they have the same problem when it comes to churches.

  Jones-Wilson asked how many do they serve for home-buyers program; Burns stated next class is on the 13th and they currently have 19 applicants registered for the class.

 

  Stallworth asked if they have any lenders; Burns stated they have a list of lenders
